Pagpasa sa Maritime Zones Act dapat nang madaliin – Tolentino

Napakahalaga kayat dapat nang maisabatas ang Maritime Zones Act dahil na rin sa panibagong insidente sa West Philippine Sea noong nakaraang araw ng linggo.   “This is urgent because it is needed. This was needed 5 years ago, 10 years ago, or 15 years ago so we have to pass this,” sabi ni Sen. Francis  Tolentino sa pagpapatuloy na pagdinig sa panukala ng pinamumunuan niyang Special Committee on Maritime Zones and Admiralty. Ginawa niya ang pahayag nang suportahan ang panukala ni Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra at ng mga kinauukulang ahensiya ng gobyerno. Ipinaliwanag ni Guevarra na kapag naging batas ang panukala obligado ang ibang bansa na sumunod sa mga batas ukol sa teritoryo ng Pilipinas.

“This is essentially a reflection of the relevant provisions of the UNCLOS to which more than a hundred countries are members, and therefore, if we have a law like this, which is a reflection of an international convention where the members comprise practically the entire international community, there is an expectation of an obligation on the part of these members states to comply with our own laws,” paliwanag ni Guevarra.

Dagdag pa ni Tolentino na aayusin pa ng technical working group ang panukala sa susunod na batas para matalakay pa ng husto ng Senado at Kamara.

Kabilang ang panukala sa “urgent measures” ang administrasyong-Marcos Jr.
