257,000 ektaryang sakahan, nangangambang maapektuhan ng El Niño
Nasa 275,000 ektaryang lupa sa buong bansa ang maaring maapektuhan ng El Niño.
Sa pulong balitaan sa Quezon City, sinabi ni National Irrigation Administration officer-in-charge Deputy Administrator for Engineering and Operations Sector Josephine Salazar na tinutugunan na rin naman ito ng ahensya.
Katumbas ito ng halos 1.5 milyong metrikong palay ang mawawala.
“For the overall direction of NIA po ngayong 2024, we are also preparing for the El Niño as well. We have identified some 275,000 hectares of vulnerable area nationwide and under our proposed budget for 2024, mayroon na po kaming mga immediate na measure for that. So, we are now in the program of practicing some climate change resilient projects so we are now doing some drip irrigation as well and the sprinkler system,” pahayag ni Salazar.
Karamihan sa mga sakahang maaring maapektuhan ng El Niño ang Central Luzon, Soccsksargen, at Region 1.
