Sen. Mark Villar sinabing kailangan ng matibay na batas kontra financial scams

Nahahabala si Senator Mark Villar ang ulat na pinakamaraming financial phishing attempts sa Pilipinas kumpara sa ibang bansa sa Southeast Asia nooong Pebrero hanggang Abril 2022.

Sa pagdinig ng pinamumunuan niyang Senate Committee on Banks na ang bilang ng phishing attacks sa bansa sa unang kalahati ng 2022 na 1,8 milyon ay malaki pa kumpara sa naitalang 1.34 milyon sa kabuuan ng 2021.

Naniniwala si Villar na malaki ang magagawa ng isinusulong na Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act o AFASA para malabanan ang online fraud.

“The AFASA will provide a regulatory framework that penalizes scammers and entails safeguard measures to protect Filipinos and their financial accounts,” ani Villar.

Dagdag pa niya: “Because of the lack of a regulatory framework that penalizes these scammers, there are and there will be more victims in the foreseeable future. Even as we speak, there are individuals being victimized by these scammers who seize every vulnerable opportunity available to them. We cannot watch from the sidelines as scammers take advantage of our people.”

Sa pamamagitan pa niya ng AFASA mapapagtibay pa ang tiwala ng konsyumer sa mga bangko at iba pang financial institutions.
