Senado nagkaisa sa resolusyon kontra sa bagong IACAT travel guidelines

Inaprubahan ng mga senador ang resolusyon na nanawagan para sa suspensyon at pagsusuri sa pinahigpit na “travel guidelines” ng Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking’s (IACAT) para sa mga Filipino.

Hiniling ng mga senador na maging co-author at sponsor ng naturang resolusyon.

Naghain din ng hiwalay na resolusyon si Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, na nagbibigay ng awtorisasyon kay Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri na maghain ng petisyon o kaso sa Korte Suprema kung kakailanganin pa na ang korte na ang pumigil sa implementasyon ng bagong travel guidelines.

Sa kanyang privilege speech, hinimok na ni  Zubiri ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) at ang IACAT na maghanap ng ibang alternatibo o istratehiya ng hindi nalalabag ang karapatan na bumiyahe ng mga Filipino.

“They don’t become victims once they arrive abroad. They become victims as soon as these recruiters prey on them right here on our shores. Let us not victimize Filipino travelers with inefficiency, Mr. President. There are real perpetrators that we can target here, mainly illegal recruiters and we must go after them instead of burdening everyone else,” pagpupunto ni Zubiri.
