Target na palakasin ni Panguong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang ugnayan ng Pilipinas sa United Kingdom sa defense at security.
Ginawa ni Pangulong Marcos ang pahayag sa courtesy call ni UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang.
Sa ngayon, lumakas ang tensyon sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China sa usapin sa teritoryo sa West Philippine Sea.
“And the new development in terms of security and defense. It is not traditional for us to look to Europe for our… to seek alliances and partnerships when it comes to security and defense. But that seems to be the evolution, the geopolitics these days. It is a welcome evolution in my view, and again your visit here I think, is a clear indication of that intent,” pahayag ni Pangulong Marcos.
Bukod sa defense at security, palalakasin din ng dalawang bansa ang usapin sa kalakalan at iba pang larangan.
Sinabi naman ni Cleverly na batid niyang nakatutok si Pangulong Marcos sa pang-eengganyo ng mga mamumuhunan sa bansa.
Kaya naman kinausap daw niya ang kanilang ambassador tungkol sa UK export finance facility na maaaring manghikayat ng mga kumpanya sa UK para mamuhunan sa Pilipinas.
Ayon pa kay Cleverly, handa rin silang makipagtulungan sa mga hakbang ng gobyerno sa pagtugon sa climate change at renewable energy.
