Villar: Tabako kasama sa sakop ng panukalang Agri Sabotage Law
Dahil malaki ang ambag ng tabako sa sektor ng agrikultura, sinabi ni Senator Cynthia Villar na kasama ito sa isinusulong na Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act of 2023.
Paliwanag niya aamyendahan ng panukala ang Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act para makasama ang hoarding, profiteering at cartel ng mga produktong-agrikultural sa maaring kasuhan ng economic sabotage.
Sa kanyang pagharap sa International Tobacco Agricultural Summit sa Shangri-La in BGC, Taguig City iginiit ni Villar na napakahalaga ng industriya ng tabako sa ekonomiya ng bansa dahil kabilang ito sa mga pinakamalaki sa buong mundo.
“According to the Oxford Business Group’s Economic Impact Report in June 2022, tobacco cultivation was present in 23 provinces across 12 regions in the Philippines, with the Ilocos Region being the top producer at 69%, followed by Cagayan Valley at 23%, and Northern Mindanao ranking third, as of April 2022,” pagbabahagi pa ni Villar.
Idinagdag pa ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Agriculture na sa pagitan ng 2019 hanggang 2022, nadagdagan ng 47.8 porsiyento ang pinagtataniman ng tabako.
