160 milyong plastic sachets itinatapon sa Pilipinas araw-araw
Nasa 61,000 metrikong tonelada ng basura ang itinatapon sa Pilipinas kada araw.
Ayon kay Environment Sec. Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, 24 porsyento sa mga basurang ito ay mga plastic.
Nasa 160 milyong plastic packets ang nagagamit kada araw, mahigit 40 milyong shopping bags at thin film bags.
“So lahat po ng mga plastics iyon, sinisikapan po natin that they will not reach our marine areas and our coastal areas. Siyempre po, may kailangan pong gawin talaga in terms of the prevention of the solid waste such as these plastics to make it to our open environment and to our oceans,” pahayag ni Loyzaga.
Sabi pa ng kalihim hindi na recycle kundi upcycle na ang ginagamit ngayon ng DENR at paliwanag niya ito ang mas makabagong proseso sa mga plastic waste.
Batay sa pag-aaral ng World Bank, 70 porsyento na material value ang nalilikha mula sa plastic waste at nasa $790 hanggang $890 milyong ang kita sa plastic waste kada taon.
“So iyong sustainable production consumption really has to do with the way we generate our products and how we also manage the waste that is part of degeneration of the products particularly itong mga plastic waste po natin,” pahayag pa ng kalihim.
