Exodus ng nurses sa ibang bansa, nangangahulugan na maganda ang edukasyon sa Pilipinas
Magandang balita para kay Commission on Higher Education Chairman Prospero de Vera ang mataas na demand ng mga nurses sa abroad.
Sabi ni de Vera, nangangahulugan kasi ito na maganda ang kwalidad ng edukasyon sa Pilipinas kung kaya hinahanap ang serbisyo ng mga Filipino nurses.
“You know, the fact that our nurses are in-demand abroad is actually good news because that means we produce world-class nurses. I think we should be worried if our professionals are not acceptable abroad – that means our educational system is not good. So it’s a good sign, we just have to manage it better by producing more nurses,” pahayag ni de Vera.
Sa ngayon, nasa 5,000 hanggang 7,000 nurses ang limitasyon sa bilang ng mga nurses na pinapayagang makalabas ng bansa.
Tinutugunan na aniya ngayon ng CHED ang kakulangan ng nurses sa Pilipinas.
Katunayan sinabi ni de Vera na nagsumite na sila kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” marcos Jr. ng long-term, medium-term at immediate actions para tugunan ang problema.
Halimbawa na ayon kay de Vera ay ang pag-alis sa ten-year moratorium sa paglikha ng bagong nursing program.
Mayroon anniyang 54 na unibersidad ang nag-apply ng open nursing programs kung saan tinatayang makapagpo-produce ng mahigit 2,000 nurses para sa academic year 2027-2028.
Para sa medium-term, sinabi ni de Vera na nakikipag-ugnayan na TESDA ang CHED para magkaroon ng health care assistants at health care associates.
Minamadali na rin aniya ng CHED ang master’s program dahil marami sa mga eskwelahan ang hindi nakapagtuturo ng nursing courses dahil sa kakulangan ng mga guro na mayroong master’s degree.
“The immediate is, you know, only about 50% of nursing graduates pass the licensure test. So there’s 50% of individuals, graduates – they have been trained in the hospitals, they have gone through the program – who are not nurses because they did not pass the licensure test. So, we’re working now with the Department of Health and the private hospitals and the universities that have very good track record in having review classes. So we will hold special review classes for those employed in the DOH and in private hospitals as aides or assistants so that they can pass the licensure test and we can produce more graduates,” pahayag ni de Vera.
Una rito, sinabi ni Health Secretary Ted Herbosa na pabor siya na kunin ang mga nurses na hindi nakapansa sa licensure examinations sa mga pampublikong ospital.
Sabi ng Private Hospital Association of the Philippines, 50 percent sa mga nursing staff ang nagbitiw na sa trabaho at nakipagsapalaran sa ibang bansa.
Hindi maikakaila na masyadong mababa ang pasahod sa mga nurses sa Pilipinas kumpara sa abroad.
