Hontiveros: Agresibong aksyon ng China sa WPS dapat isumbong sa UN
Nanawagan sa administrasyong-Marcos Jr., si Senator Risa Hontiveros na idulog sa United Nations (UN) ang mga agresibong aksyon ng China sa West Philippine Sea.
Sa inihaing Senate Resolution 659 ni Hontiveros, sinabi nito na maaring gawin ito ng gobyerno sa pamamagitan ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Paliwanag niya maaring mag-sponsor ang DFA ng resolusyon sa UN General Assembly, na mananawagan sa China para matigil na harassment ng Filipino vessels sa WPS.
“As far back as 2016, through the landmark Arbitral ruling, it has been established that there was no legal basis for China to claim historic rights over Filipino resources. It has also been proven that China breached its obligations under international law when it violated our sovereign rights over our continental shelf and exclusive economic zone. This is a clear and unequivocal decision. The Hague Ruling will never be diminished by China’s antagonistic and perpetual non-compliance,” dagdag pa ni Hontiveros.
Diin nito sa kabila ng pagkakapanalo ng Pilipinas sa Arbitral Tribunal, patuloy ang pambu-bully ng China sa WPS kayat apektado ang kabuhayan ng mga mangingisdang Filipino.
“This is nothing but a constant rejection of the basic tenets of international law. Beijing’s blunt refusal to accept her legal fate should have serious consequences. The UN General Assembly should be able to tell China to behave,” sabi pa ni Hontiveros.
