Angara: Pagkilala sa Guimaras mangoes, pag-asa ng mga produktong-Pinoy
Naniniwala si Senator Sonny Angara na ang pagkilala sa mangga ng Guimaras ang magiging susi upang makilala sa buong mundo ang iba pang produktong-Filipino.
Ito aniya ang magbibigay daan para umunlad ang sektor ng export ng bansa.
Binigyan ng “geographical indication (GI)” ang mangga mula sa Guimaras ng Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHIL) base sa aplikasyon ng Guimaras Mango Growers and Producers Development Cooperative.
“Guimaras mangoes have long been well known among Filipinos as being one of the sweetest in the country and having the quality than can pass the standards and requirements of importing countries. With the grant of first ever GI, farmers of Guimaras mangoes will be the ones to benefit with an increase in demand and higher profits,” ani Angara.
Naiulat na interesado ang Czech Republic, Dubai at South Korea matapos umangkat ang Switzerland ng Guimaras mangoes noong nakaraang taon.
Paliwanag ng senador kapag may GI-certification nangangahulugan na ang produkto ay nagmula sa isang partikular na lugar, teritoryo o rehiyon lamang.
Inihain ni Angara ang Senate Bill 1868 upang mabigyan proteksyon ang producer ng GI-certified products.
