Sen. Pia Cayetano: Napakahalaga ng community medical clinics
Kinilala ni Senator Pia Cayetano ang kahalagahan ng community medical clinics sa pagbibigay ng primary healthcare sa mamamayan.
Ginawa ito ni Cayetano sa pagbisita sa Glory Reborn, isang pribadong paanakan na nagbibigay serbisyo sa mahirap na komunidad sa Cebu City.
“All over the world, it is recognized that the best kind of intervention is primary health care, and that includes prenatal and childbirth services,” banggit ng senadora.
Aniya bago naging batas ang Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act (RA 10354), na kanyang isinulong noong 2012, mataas ang high maternal mortality rate.
Pag-amin niya sa kabila nang pagkakaroon na ng naturang batas, hindi pa rin madali sa mga kababaihan ang makakuha ng maternal healthcare lalo na sa mga liblib na lugar.
Isyu din aniya ang kakulangan ng medical professionals sa mga malalayong lugar.
“Maternal deaths are preventable deaths. Most of these happen when there is no access to prenatal care, which would have allowed the patient to know ahead if there are complications in her pregnancy,” dagdg pa ni Cayetano.
