Sa loob ng magkakasunud na 6 na buwan ngayong taon ay bumaba ang singil sa kuryente ng MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) para sa mga residente na sineserbisyuhan nito sa Iloilo City.
Ang residential rate para sa buwan ng Mayo hanggang Hunyo ay bumaba ng halos P1 sa P12.2990 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) mula P13.2511 per kWh.
“This is the 6th straight month that More Power is reducing its rates,” ayon sa More Power.
Ayon sa More Power ang pagbaba ng singil ay bunsod ng pagbaba ng generation cost, resulta umano ito ng pagdagdag ng geothermal power sa power supply mix na ginawa ng Energy Development Corp.
Ang pagpasok ng renewable energy supplier sa supply mix ay naging daan para bumaba ang value added tax(VAT) sa generation charge na nasa P0.1613 per kWh.
Ang Geothermal power ay isang renewable energy source na hindi lamang cost-effective bagkus maraming environmental benefits.
Naging malaking kontribusyon din sa pagbaba ng singil sa kuryente ang spot market price sa Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), ang pagbaba ng presyo ng coal gayundin ng transmission charge na bumaba sa P0.7226 per kWh mula sa P0.9057 per kWh noong nakaraang buwan.
Sinabi ng More Power na ang pagbaba sa mga charges ay humatak din para bumaba ang system loss charge mula 7.00 % ay naging 6.49 % na dagdag tulong din sa bayarin ng mga customers.
Matatandaan na kamakalawa ay pinasumulan din ng More Power ang bill deposit refund sa kanilang mga customer.
Ang Bill deposit ay ang syang binabayad ng mga consumer kapag nag-apply ito ng kanilang electric meter, alinsunod sa Article 7 ng Magna Carta for residential electric consumers, ang bill deposit ay kailangang ibalik ng mga Distribution Utilities(DU) makalipas ang 3 taon o 36 buwan sa kondisyon na ang consumer ay nagbabayad sa oras at walang record ng disconnection.
Alinsunud sa nasabing batas ang customer ay kailangan mag-apply para sa bill deposit refund subalit sa inisyatibo ng More Power ay ito mismo ang nagkusang tumawag at nagpabatid sa kanilang customer na maaari nang kunin ang kanilang refund.
Sinabi ni Power President at CEO Roel Castro ang kanilang kusang pagbabalik ng bill deposit ay sa hangarin na rin nila na maging ehemplo sa iba pang distribution utilities(DU).
“even if the customer does not ask for it, we go out of our way to inform the customers that this is due you and we will return it. Since we don’t have any intention to use the money, we do not have the intention to keep the money; we do not have the intention of using it for our operation; why keep it when it is already due for return,” pahayag ni Castro.
Idinagdag pa nito na mayroong P5 million pondo ang More Power para sa bill deposit refund kaya hinimok nito ang mga customer na magbayad sa oras upang makuwalipika sa balik bayad.
Tinuring naman na “milestone” ng Energy Regulatory Commission(ERC) ang bill deposit refund initiative ng More Power.
Ayon kay ERC Commissioner Alexis Lumbatan bihira sa mga distribution utility na magbalik ng bill deposit refund kaya isa itong “milestone” na dapat tularan.
