Hinimok ni Secretary Benhur Abalos ang lahat ng mga kakandidato sa papalapit na Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan (BSK) elections na magpa-drug test.
Bunsod ito, ayon kay Abalos, ng intelligence reports na may 430 barangay officials sa buong bansa ang sangkot sa droga.
Dapat aniya pangunahan ng mga opisyal ng barangay ang laban kontra ilegal na droga at magsilbi silang magandang ehemplo sa kanilang lugar.
“To all those who would run for the barangay elections, we are fighting a war that is a global problem. If you want to run and serve, then undergo a drug test and show to us that you are ready to serve,” sabi ng kalihim.
Sinabi naman ni PNP chief, Police Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. na may listahan sila ng mga pangalan ng mga opisyal ng barangay na maaring sangkot sa droga.
Aniya kasama sa listahan ang mga opisyal na itinuturing na high-value individuals, samantalang ang iba naman ay drug-pushers at marami ang nasa Western Visayas region.
“They are subject to intelligence operations. We are hoping that this will be reduced in the coming days. Hopefully, those involved would eventually stop. If not, they will be subject to police operations,” dagdag pa ng hepe ng pambansang pulisya.
