“Coup attempt” vs Speaker Romualdez, CGMA may inamin
Matapos ang kanyang matipid na tugon matapos hingiin ang kanyang reaksyon sa pagkakatanggal sa kanya nilang senior deputy House speaker, nagbigay naman ng mahabang paliwanag si dating Pangulo at ngayon ay Pampanga 2md District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Kagabi ibinahagi ni Arroyo sa kanyang Facebook account ang kanyang paliwanag ukol sa diumano’y pangunguna niya sa plano ng kudeta laban kay House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Si Arroyo ang chairperson emeritus ng Lakas-CMD, samantalang si Romualdez naman ang pangulo ng partido.
Kapwa sila nakasama ni Pangulong Marcos Jr., sa pagbisita ng huli sa US kamakailan.
Ang pagdududa, ayon kay Arroyo, sa kanyang palagay ay nag-ugat sa pangunguna niya sa delegasyon ng mga kapwa mambabatas sa biyahe kamakailan sa South Korea.
“Indeed, some of my actions may have been misconstrued, such as my recent trip with a delegation of congressmen to Korea for some official meetings,” aniya.
Kasabay nito, inamin ni Arroyo bago ang pagbubukas ng 19th Congress ay naisip niya na muling pamunuan ang Kamara.
Ngunit tinalikuran niya ang kanyang sariling plano dahil alam niya na tunay na malapit sina Pangulong Marcos Jr., at Romualdez dahil sila ay mag-pinsan.
“When President Marcos won, I wanted to aspire for the Speakership of the House. But it soon became apparent that he was most comfortable with then-[Congressman] Martin Romualdez as Speaker,” ani Arroyo.
Dagdag pa niya; “So it should be noted that being Speaker once more is no longer part of my political objectives. This has been my position ever since Speaker Romualdez was elected in the 19th Congress, and I continue ot urge my Lakas-CMD partymates to support our party president (Romualdez) in that role.”
Aniya tanggap naman niya na siya ay isang mambabatas na lamang at ang mga isyung pambansa ay hindi na nakapadepende pa sa kanyang posisyon sa Kamara.
“Thus, I have no compelling reasons to change my mind about foregoing my ambitions for the Speakership. By this disavowal, I hope that we can preempt any needless politicking so that the House and our President can focus on the job at hand with minimum distraction,” sabi pa ng 78-anyos na deputy House speaker.
Pinalitan si Arroyo ng kanyang kababayan, si Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., ng Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
