5 Chinese kabilang sa mga nahuli sa illegal mining site sa Misamis Oriental
Sinalakay ng mga pinagsanib na puwersa ng gobyerno ang isang ilegal na minahan sa Opol, Misamis Oriental.
Ayon kay Environment Sec. Antonia Loyzaga, 18 ang naaresto, kabilang ang limang Chinese nationals.
Nasa 7.6 ektaryang lupa ang ilegal na minimina sa Iponan River sa Opol, Misamis Oriental.
Base sa sattelite imagery na nakuha ni Loyzaga, labis na pinsala na ang idinulot sa kapaligiran at kalikasan ng 7.6 ektaryang minahan sa Iponan River.
Aniya ang kanilang mga tauhan sa DENR Region 10, NBI – North Eastern Mindanao Regional Office, at Special Forces ng Philippine Army 4th Infantry Division, ang sumalakay sa minahan.
“I hope that the recently conducted joint operation and the succeeding monitoring and rehabilitation efforts will bring about positive changes and bring to life again the Iponan River.I am calling on concerned government agencies, other stakeholders and the communities along the Iponan River and elsewhere in the country to take consistent active measures to combat illegal mining operations in their area,” ani Loyzaga.
Nakakulong na ngayon ang mga suspek sa NBI North Eastern Mindanao Regional Office sa Cagayan de Oro City at nahahrap sa kasong paglabag sa Republic Act (RA) 7942 o ang Philippine Mining Act, RA 9275 o ang Philippine Clean Water Act, at Presidential Decree 705 o ang Forestry Code of the Philippines.
