WHO nagbabala sa paggamit ng artificial sweeteners

Nagpalabas ng babala ang World Health Organization (WHO) sa mga gumagamit ng artificial sweeteners sa kasabay ng pagbabawas ng timbang.

Ayon sa ahensiya may maaring pang magdulot ng seryosong epekto sa kalusugan ang non-sugar sweeteners o NSS.

Base sa mga ginawang pag-aaral, ang paggamit ng NSS at maaring magdulot ng type 2 diabetes at cardiovascular diseases.

Ginagamit ito sa mga tinatawag na diet softdrinks o ipinapalit sa asukal upang tumamis ang inumin.

“Replacing ordinary sugar with artificial sweeteners does not help with weight control in the long term. People need to consider other ways to reduce free sugars intake, such as consuming food with naturally occurring sugars, like fruit or unsweetened food and beverages,” sabi ni Francesco Branca, director ng WHO – Nutrition and Food Safety.

Diin ni Branca ang dapat gawin ay bawasan na ang pagkain ng mga matatamis o bawasan ang tamis ng inumin o pagkain simula sa murang edad.

Ilan lamang sa mga madalas na gamitin na NSS ay acesulfame K, aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia at stevia derivatives.
