Non-operating tourism zones, pinare-review ni Pangulong Marcos sa DOT
Inatasan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang Department of Tourism (DOT) na pag-aralan ang mga non-operating tourism zones sa bansa na nasa ilalim ng Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) para mapalakas ang tourism industry.
Ginawa ng Pangulo ang utos sa DOT sa pakikipagpulong sa Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) Tourism Sector Group sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang.
“I’m happy that the general direction… that means that we are actually… have already started. There are some very good suggestions,” pahayag ng Pangulo.
Ayon sa Pangulo, ang problema kasi ng TIEZA ay ang mga non-operating properties.
Ang TIEZA ay isang government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) at attached agency ng DOT.
Sa ilalim ng Tourism Act of 2009, 50 percent ng travel tax ang mapupunta sa TIEZA, 40 percent ang ilalaan sa Higher Education Development Fund habang ang 10 percent ay mapupunta sa National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Nabatid na noong 2022, nakapagtala ang PIlipinas ng 2.6 milyong turista.
