Pagbibigay ng amnestiya sa NPA rebels suportado ng AFP chief

Nagpahayag ng kanyang suporta si Armed Forces of the Philippines chief, General Andres Centino sa pagbibigay ng amnestiya sa lahat ng mga rebeldeng komunista sa bansa para tuluyan nang mawakasan na ang kanilang armadong pakikibaka.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Centino na maraming rebelde ang hindi  sumusuko dahil sa kahaharapin nilang mga kasong kriminal.

“Some members of the New People’s Army (NPA) are quite apprehensive about surrendering because of their pending cases in court,” aniya.

Dagdag pa niya: “I have advocated that other approaches of the government in dealing with insurgency should be considered, such as the granting of the amnesty.”

Base sa  military intelligence reports, halos 2,000 na lamang ang bilang ngayon ng mga rebelde mula sa pinakamataas na 25,000 noong dekada ’80.

Diumano demoralisado na rin ang mga rebelde dahil sa kawalan ng lider matapos ang pagpanaw ni Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria “Joma” Sison noong nakaraang taon, gayundin ng mag-asawang Benito at Wilma Tiamzon.
