PCG: 10 sa 11 natitirang tagas sa MT Princess Empress naselyuhan na
Inanunsiyo ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) na 10 sa 11 natitirang tagas ng langis sa lumubog na MT Princess Empress sa Oriental Mindoro ang naselyuhan na ng remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) ng Japan at US.
Ayon kay Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, commander ng PCG Incident Management Team (IMT) sa Oriental Mindoro, nakumpleto ang operasyon halos isang buwan matapos magsimulang gamitin ang ROV Hakuyo nf dynamic positioning vessel (DPV) Shin Nichi ng Japan.
Sa unang survey, natuklasan na may 24 tagas sa lumubog na sasakyang pandagat at naging 11 na lamang ito matapos ang follow-up survey noong Abril 1.
Ani Tuvilla gumamit ng “specialized bags” mula sa United Kingdom para maselyuhan ang tagas sa 2nd at 3rd water ballast tank air vent startboard.
Lumubog ang MT Princess Empress noong Pebrero 28 na may kargang 800,000 litro ng industrial oil at nagdulot ng oil spill sa Oriental Mindoro at umabot sa Antique, Palawan at Batangas.
Nakakolekta na ng 20,000 litro ng oily-water mixture, samantalang 134,000 kilo ng oil-contaminated debris ang nakolekta na rin sa 12 barangay sa mga bayan ng Naujan, Calapan, at Pola.
