Hiniling ng ilang grupo sa Korte Suprema ang pagpapahinto sa ikinakasang SIM registration.
Ang petisyon ay inihain ng National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) at nina journalist Ronalyn V. Olea, dating Bayan Muna Party List Rep. Eufemia Cullamat, BAYAN Secretary-General Renato Reyes Jr., Llorre Benidicto Pasco, Dean Matthias Razi Timtiman Alea, Maded Batara III ng Junk SIM Registration Network, Alberto Roldan ng PAMALAKAYA, Danilo Hernandez Ramos ng Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas, at Atty. Michael Christopher de Castro.
Ayon sa kanila dapat ay maglabas ang Korte Suprema ng temporary restraining order (TRO) para masuspindi ang pagpapatupad ng RA 11934 o SIM Registration Act.
Hiniling din nila sa SC na ipag-utos na ang agarang pagsira sa lahat ng nakuha ng datos mula sa SIM registration.
Diin nila nilalabag ng batas ang karapatan sa pamamahayag, privacy to communication at karapatan sa hindi makatuwiran na paghahanap at pagkumpiska.
“Given the nature of cell phones and devices connected to the internet, the SIM Registration Act partakes in the nature of prior restraint. On its face, the law chills all speech done through SIM if disclosure is not made,” anila.
