Estrada: Police body cams sa anti-drug operations dapat ayon na sa SC
Hindi na kailangan pa ng batas para maging bahagi na ng kasuotan ng mga pulis ang body cameras sa tuwing sila ay nagsasagawa ng anti-drug operations.
Ito ang sinabi ni Sen. Jinggoy Estrada dahil aniya may naging promulgasyon na ang Korte Suprema noong 2021 na nagsabing dapat ay may suot na “recording devices” ang mga awtoridad sa pagsisilbi ng arrest at search warrants.
“Kung sa mga simpleng pag-serve ng search at arrest warrants ay requirement na ito, mas higit na dapat ginagawa sa mga anti-drug operations. The SC, in its administrative ruling even stated that failure to comply with the regulation would make the evidence seized during an operation inadmissible to the court,” sabi ni Estrada.
Pag-amin naman niya na problema ang kakulangan ng pondo at sa hanay ng pulisya, 3,000 lang ang kanilang body cameras.
Diin lang ni Estrada, hindi man sapat ang pondo, responsibilidad ng mga awtoridad ang kanilang mga aksyon.
“Kung mayroon man na lihis ang gawain sa kanilang hanay, the leadership of these agencies are well-within their authority to cleanse and rid their ranks of so-called scalawags,” sabi pa nito.
