Paggamit ng chemical-based dispersants sa oil spill sa Oriental Mindoro may masamang epekto sa marine ecosystem

Nagbabala ang Climate Change Commission sa plano ng pamahalaan na gumamit ng chemical-based dispersants para linisin ang oil spill sa Oriental Mindoro.

Ayon kay CCC Commissioner Albert dela Cruz Sr. may masamang epekto sa marine ecosystem ang paggamit ng chemical-based dispersants.

“The droplets do not actually reduce the amount of oil entering the environment but push the effects of the spill underwater and this could have harmful effects on the marine environment and ecosystem,” pahayag ni dela Cruz.

Sa halip na gumamit ng dispersants, sinabi ni dela Cruz na mas makabubuting gumamit na lamang ng whole-of-nation and –society approach para matugunan ang oil spill.

Mas mahalaga ayon kay dela Cruz na ma-protektahan ang marine biodiversity lalo’t ang Verde Island Passage area ang itinuturing na breeding ground ng marine resources ng bansa.
