DND humingi ng ‘exemption’ sa SOGIE bill para sa AFP
Nais ng Department of National Defense na hindi masakop ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ng isinusulong na sakaling maging batas ang anti-discrimination bill base sa sexual orientation and gender identity expression (SOGIE).
Sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Women and Gender Equality sa SOGIE equality bills, sinabi ni Arjay Lim, namumuno sa Legislative Division ng DND, na masyadong malawak ang mga panukala at maaring makaapekto sa ilang polisiya ng militar.
Pagdidiin na rin ni Lim na wala silang diskriminasyon sa mga nais pumasok sa serbisyong militar, ngunit katuwiran niya kailangan lamang ay masunod pa rin ang mga pamantayan at kuwalipikasyon sa pagpili ng mga sundalo.
Aniya maari na itong makaapekto sa ‘enlistment process’ kung saan ay may itinakda ng bilang para sa partikular na grupo.
“We respectfully request that the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the establishment responsible for upholding the sovereignty and defending the territory of the Republic of the Philippines, be given an exemption to its application,”ani Lim.
