Sinabi ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri na hindi kabilang ang pag-amyenda sa Saligang Batas sa ’20 legislative priorities’ ng Senado.
“Charter change was never in our agenda. At this point in time, we don’t want to get into a divisive issue and I think this will be a very divisive issue. I think what the country needs to do now is to focus on post-pandemic recovery and reconstruction. That is our priority,” pahayag ni Zubiri sa Senate media.
Binanggit naman nito ang mga prayoridad – ang pagratipika sa Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Philippine Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) bill, the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) bill, Virology Institute bill, at Maharlika Investment Fund bill.
Ngunit paglilinaw ni Zubiri na maari naman magpatawag ng pagdinig si Sen. Robinhood Padilla ukol sa isinusulong nitong pag-amyenda sa ‘economic provisions’ ng 1987 Constitution.
Si Padilla ang namumuno sa Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Codes.
Dagdag pa ni Zubiri kapag natapos ni Padilla ang pagdinig, gagawa ito ng final committee report, bago ilalatag sa plenaryo kung saan inaasahan magkakaroon ng matinding diskusyon at interpelasyon.
