Cayetano: RITM hindi bubuwagin sa pagpapatayo ng CDC

Hindi na lulusawin ang Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) sa isinusulong na pagbuo sa Philippine Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC). Sinabi ito ni Sen. Pia Cayetano sa kanyang sponsorship speech sa Senate Bill 1869 at aniya ang RITM ay magiging Philippine Research Institute of Medicine (PRIM). Bukod sa PRIM, sasailalim din sa Philippine CDC ang Center for Health Statistics at ang Center for Surveillance and Epidemiology. Paliwanag ni Cayetano sa pamamagitan ng Philippine CDC ay mas makakapaghanda ang bansa para sa iba pang health outbreaks at health emergencies. Isang leksyon aniya na itinuro ng pandemya na dulot ng COVID 19 ay ang pagpapalakas sa healthcare system ng bansa. Binanggit nito na sa pagtataya ng Center for Global Development, may 47 hanggang 57 porsiyento tsansa ng pagkakaroon global pandemic tulad ng COVID 19 sa susunod na 25 taon. “If there’s one lesson we learned from this, it’s the importance of being prepared for other future crises, including the possibility of another pandemic,” diin ni Cayetano.
