Humihirit si Manila Congressman Joel Chua na gawing legal na sa bansa ang motorcycle taxies.
Sa House Bill Number 7034 o Motorcycles-for-Hire Act, sinabi ni Chua na dapat na dagdagan na ang alternatibong transportasyon sa bansa dahil sa pagdami ng mga pasahero.
Target din ni Chua na makalikha ng milyong trabaho dahil sa naturang panukala.
Sinabi pa ni Chua na ang moto taxies ang pinakamura, maasahan, ligtas at convenient na gamitin para sa mga daily commuters.
“Lack of mobility and traffic congestion remain to be a significant hurdle to economic growth and individual well-being in the country. Due to inadequate public transport options, many Filipinos turn to private vehicles, but one transport solution that has proven to be reliable, safe, convenient, and affordable is motorcycle taxis,” pahayag ni Chua.
Sinabi pa ni Chua na matutulungan din ng motorcycle-for-hire services ang pamahalaan para punan ang transportation gap.
Nakasaad naman sa panukala ni Chua na kinakailangan na bigyan ng safety trainings ang mga motorcycle riders para masigurong ligtas ang mga pasahero.
“However, despite its promise of convenience and fast service, it must be regulated to ensure that the interest of the general public, commuters in particular, must be protected,” pahayag ni Chua.
Base sa Land Transportation Office, nasa 18 milyong motorsiklo ang bumibiyahe sa buong bansa.
Mahalaga ayon kay Chua na bigyan ng regulasyon ang mga motorcycles-for-hire.
“Motorcycles-for-hire, particularly motorcycle taxis, have the added benefit of providing meaningful livelihoods to the relatively unskilled sectors of the workforce. As drivers only need to drive well and safely, many who would otherwise be under or unemployed elsewhere are able to earn a sufficient living wage by offering their transportation services through Motorcycle Taxi Platform Providers,” pahayag ni Chua.
Sa ngayon, nasa P500 lamang ang arawang sahod ng mga manggagawa.
Naniniwala si Chua na malaking tipid sa mga pasahero ang pagsakay sa motorsiklo kaysa sa taxi.
