‘Kafala system’ sa Middle East pinaaalis ni Sen. Jinggoy Estrada

Hiniling ni Senator  Jinggoy Estrada sa gobyerno na pag-aralan na ang abolisyon ng ‘Kafala system’ para bigyan proteksyon ang overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) sa Middle East.

Sinabi ni Estrada, nagiging daan pa ang ‘Kafala system’ para maabuso ang mga Filipino dahil sa napipigilan nito ang galaw ng mga Filipino.

“It’s time for us to focus on studying the call of abolishing the Kafala system as done in Bahrain and in Qatar, where the Kafala system had been abolished. In Bahrain it is supposed to be the government, not individual employers, who sponsor the OFW,” sabi ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Labor sa kanyang privilege speech kahapon.

Ginawa ni Estrada ang panawagan kasunod ng brutal na pagpatay sa 35-anyos na Filipina domestic helper na si Jullebee Ranara sa Kuwait.

Kasabay nito ang panawagan ng senador sa  Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) at  Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) na paigtingin pa ang pagbabantay sa mga bansa kung may malaking bilang ng OFWs.

Dapat din aniya na palakasin pa ang pag-uulat ng mga kaso ng pang-aabuso sa OFWs.
