P19 milyong halaga ng asukal nasabat

Aabot sa P19 milyong halaga ng asukal ang nakumpiska ng mga awtoridad sa Manila International Container Port.

Ayon sa Department of Agriculture, napigilan ng kanilang hanay ang operasyon ng illegal smugglers sa isa sa mga entry points ng international cargoes sa National Capital Region.

Nakalagay ang mga nakumpiskang asukal sa limang container cargo.

Idineklara ang kargamento bilang insulators, surge arresters, slippers outsoles at styrene butadiene rubber were actually refined cane sugar.

Katuwang ng DA sa pagsasagawa ng operasyon ang Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), at Customs Intelligence & Investigation Services (CIIS).

Ayon kay Agriculture, Assistant Secretary James Layug, inihahanda na ng kanilang hanay ang pagsasampa ng kaso laban sa consignee ng kargamento na Burias Jang Consumer Goods Trading dahil sa misdeclaration at misclassification ng kargamento base na rin sa isinasaad ng Food Safety Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10611) at Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016 (Republic Act No. 10845).
