Pangulong Marcos Jr., naninindigan sa Barangay, SK elections postponement

Walang nakikitang legal na balakid si Pangulong Marcos Jr. nang lagdaan niya ang Republic Act No. 11935, na nagpapaliban sa synchronized Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Sa ilalim ng bagong batas, sa halip na Disyembre 5, ngayon taon, gagawin na lamang ang Barangay at SK elections sa huling Lunes ng Oktubre 2023.

Paliwanag ng Pangulo, may mga naunang pagkakataon na ipinagpaliban ang naturang eleksyon bagamat pag-amin niya wala sa Konstitusyon ang pagpapaliban ng eleksyon.

Pero nakasaad naman aniya ito sa Local Government Code.

“We have sufficient precedent for the postponement of the Barangay and SK elections. Nakailan na tayo, in my time lang in government, I have seen I think for maybe 5 postponements. And so I think in terms of the law, it is well within the powers of Congress to postpone those elections because that is not contained in the Constitution, that is contained in the Local Government Code, ” pahayag ng Pangulo.

Una nang dumulog sa Korte Supreme ang si election lawyer Romulo Macalintal para kuwestyunin ang legalidad ng nilagdaang batas ng Pangulo.
