Sen. Jinggoy Estrada: Kongreso may kapangyarihan iurong ang eleksyon
Naninindigan si Senator Jinggoy Estrada na saklaw ng kapangyarihan ng Kongreso ang pagpapaliban sa eleksyon, gaya ng nangyari sa nakatakdang barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan elections sa Disyembre.
Reaksyon ito ni Estrada sa inihain na petisyon sa Korte Suprema na kumukuwestiyon sa Republic Act 11935.
Kumpiyansa naman ang senador na mabilis na kikilos ang Korte Suprema sa petisyon ni election lawyer Romulo Macalintal.
Unang kinuwestiyon ni Macalintal ang ‘constitutionality’ ng batas na nagpaliban sa eleksyon.
“I will not argue with the merits of the case or the lack of it. I will defer to the wisdom of our justices. But as one of the proponents of the law postponing this year’s barangay elections, this much I can say, Congress is vested by the Constitution with legislative power and we exercised such authority when we moved to defer the holding of the poll exercise this year,” diin ni Estrada.
Dagdag pa niya ang petisyon sa Korte Suprema ay patunay na buhay at nanaig ang demokrasya sa bansa.
