Suspek sa text scams arestado sa entrapment ng gobyerno

Sa pakikipagtulungan ng kumpanyang Globe Telecom, naaresto ng mga tauhan ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine National Police Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) at National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), ang isang lalaki na nagbebenta ng GCash-registered SIM cards.

Kinilala ang suspek na si Mark Deo Antang, residente ng Camarin, Caloocan City na nadakip sa ikinasang entrapment operations ng mga awtoridad.

Nahuli ang suspek na nagbebenta ng Globe at TM SIM cards na mayroong beripikadong GCash accounts.

Nahaharap si Antang sa kasong paglabag sa Sec. 4 ng Republic Act 10175 o Cybercrime Prevention Act, Section 4 na nagsasabing maituturing na cybercrime offense ang Misuse of Devices.

Nagpasalamat si Globe Group Chief Legal Counsel Froilan Castelo sa NTC sa pamumuno ni Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba, NBI at sa PNP ACG sa isinagawang operasyon.

“People who sell GCash-registered SIM cards enable criminality by being accessories to fraud. We will not relent in this campaign,” ayon kay Castelo.

Itinuturing namang welcome development ni Cordoba ang pagkakaaresto kay Antang sa kasagsagan ng kampanya ng pamahalaan laban sa paglaganap ng text scams at cybercrime sa bansa.

“With systems now in place and the solid cooperation among various government agencies and telcos in fighting text scams and cybercrime, law enforcement efforts should now lead to more arrests,” ayon kay Cordoba.

Umaasa naman si GCash chief risk officer, Ingrid Berona na ang pagkakaaresto sa suspek ay magsisilbing babala sa iba pang nasa likod ng scam.

Nagkakaisa ang mga Telcos at gobyerno na kung maipapasa ang SIM Card Law ay makatutulong para maiwasang mabiktima ang punliko ng text scams at iba pang cybercrimes.

Suportado ng nasabing mga partido ang SIM Card Registration bills na isinusulong nina House Speaker Martin Romualdez, House ICT Chair Toby Tiangco, Senate President Migz Zubiri at Senate Public Service Chair Grace Poe.
