Importasyon ng asukal ng Sugar Regulatory Board, ilegal – Palasyo
Ilegal ang resolusyon ng Sugar Regulatory Board na nag-aapruba sa pag-aangkat ng 300,000 metrikong toneladang asukal.
Ayon kay Press Secretary Beatrix “Trixie” Cruz-Angeles, hindi awtorisado ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. ang paglagda sa resolusyon.
Sa ilalim ng resolution number 4 ng Sugar Regulatory Board, mag-aangkat ang bansa ng asukal bukod pa sa naunang inangkat noong buwan ng Mayo.
“This Resolution is illegal. The Chairman of the Sugar Regulatory Board is President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. As such chairman, he sets the date of any meetings or convening of the Sugar Regulatory Board and its agenda. No such meeting was authorized by the President or such a resolution likewise, was not authorized,” pahayag ni Angeles.
Sinabi pa ni Angles na ang resolusyon ay nilagdaan o signed for on behalf of the President ni Agriculture Undersecretary Leocadio Sebastian.
Ayon kay Angeles, hindi authorized si Sebastian dahil hindi siya binigyan ng awtorisasyon ni Pangulong Marcos na mag-angkat ng asukal.
Bukod kay Sebastian, lumagda rin sa resolusyon si SRA Administrator Hermenegildo Serafica.
Sa ngayon, sinabi ni Angeles na may ginagawa ng imbestigasyon.
“An investigation is ongoing to determine whether any act that would cause the President to lose trust and confidence in his officials can be found, or if there is malice or negligence involved. In such a case, if such findings are made, then the only determination left will be how many heads are going to roll,” pahayag ni Angeles.
Hindi pa naman aniya sinisibak o pinapatawan ng preventive suspension ni Pangulong Marcos si Sebastian dahil kinakailangang bigyan din ito ng due process.
Paliwanag pa ni Angeles, kaya hindi inaprubahan ng Pangulo ang importasyon dahil panahon na ng anihan ng mga magsasaka sa buwan ng Setyembre.
Kailangan din kasi aniyang balansehin ang kapakanan ng mga magsasaka at ng mga consumer.
“Importations are a sensitive matter, particularly with regard to agricultural importations. Sugar is one such importation which we take great care with. It is a balancing act. The importation has to be carefully studied to protect both the consumer against the rising prices of basic commodities while ensuring at the same time, that we do not destroy the local industry,” pahayag ni Angeles.
Ayon kay Angeles, nakapagpaliwanag na rin naman si Sebastian kay Pangulong Marcos nang magkaroon ng pagpupulong sa Malakanyang.
“Yes, in fact, there was an opportunity for him to answer all be it informally. So, with an investigation, he has to formally answer,” pahayag ni Angeles.
