DILG sa LGUs: Paigtingin ang mga programa vs. karahasan laban sa mga kababaihan, kabataan
Hinimok ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos, Jr. ang mga lokal na pamahalaan na paigtingin ang mga programa at polisiya sa violence against women and children (VAWC) at solo parents.
Kasunod ito ng ibinabang direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. sa kaniyang unang State of the Nation Address (SONA).
“The protection of women and children and welfare of solo parents are issues that the President and his administration will focus on. We are, therefore, urging our LGUs to respond with fervor and intensify programs and policies addressing these concerns. Protektahan at pangalagaan natin ang kanilang kapakanan,” pahayag ng kalihim.
Simula Enero hanggang Hulyo 2022, sinabi ni Abalos na nakapagtala ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ng 6,383 na kaso ng VAW habang 9,677 kaso naman ng violence against children.
“With the rise in VAWC incidents during the pandemic, barangays and local government units must strengthen protective programs, counselling and support services for women who are victims of abuse and solo parents alike because they run to you [LGUs] first when they have concerns and problems,” saad nito.
Tiniyak naman ni Abalos na nananatiling aktibo ang kampanya ng DILG upang mabigyan ng proteksyon ang mga kababaihan at kabataan. Maaring tumawag sa 911 hotline para sa VAWC at iba pang Gender-Based Violence (GBV) emergency response and psychological support.
Samantala, umapela rin ang kalihim sa LGUs na epektibong ipatupad ang Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act o Republic Act (RA) No. 11861 na layong magbigay ng karagdagang benepisyo sa mga single parent.
“Our LGUs have a role to play in implementing this law and we will ensure that they will coordinate with the concerned agencies to fast-track its enforcement and swiftly deliver help to our solo parents nationwide,” saad nito.
