George Erwin Garcia, napili bilang bagong chairman ng Comelec
Itinalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. si George Erwin Garcia bilang bagong chairman ng Commission on Elections.
Ito ang inanunsyo ni Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles.
Ayon kay Angeles, isinumite na ni Pangulong Marcos sa makapangyarihang Commission on Appointments (CA) ang pangalan ni Garcia para sa kumpirmasyon.
“The president has appointed Mr. George Erwin Garcia as Chairman of the Commission on Elections. He has submitted Mr. Garcia’s name to the Commission on Appointments as required by law,” pahayag ni Angeles.
Si Garcia ay dating abogado ni Marcos sa election protest nang matalo noong 2016 sa vice presidential race laban kay dating Vice President Leni Robredo.
Una na ring itinalaga ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte si Garcia bilang Comelec Commissioner subalit hindi nakalusot sa CA dahil sa kawalan ng quorum.
