Itinalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang Medal for Valor awardee na si Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro bilang bagong chief of staff ng Armed Forces the Philippines (AFP).
Ito ang kinumpirma ni Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles.
Si Bacarro ay commander ng Southern Luzon Command.
“The change of command for the new AFP chief of staff will be on August 8. This will give time for Gen. Bacarro to wind down at the SOLCOM and provide him with the transition to his new position in Camp Aguinaldo,” pahayag ni Angeles.
Si Bacarro ay nagtapos sa Philippine Military Academy Maringal Class of 1998.
Ipinanganak si Bacarro noong Setyembre 18, 1966 sa San Fernando, La Union.
Papalitan ni Bacarro ang classmate na si AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino.
Matatandaang nilagdaan ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Republic Act 11709, na mayroong fixed three-year tour of duty para sa AFP chief of staff, vice chief of staff, deputy chief of staff, major service commanders (Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy), unified command commanders, at inspector general maliban na lang kung iti-terminate ng Pangulo.
“Based on RA 11709, Gen. Bacarro will be the first CSAFP to be given a fixed three-year term,” pahayag ni Angeles.
