DOH: Bilang ng namatay dahil sa rabies, bumaba sa taong 2022
May 157 indibiduwal na namatay dahil sa rabies sa bansa simula noong unang araw ng taong 2022 hanggang noong Hunyo 25, ayon sa Department of Health (DOH).
Ang bilang, ayon sa kagawaran, ay mababa ng limang porsiyento sa naitalang 165 sa katulad na panahon noong nakaraang taon.
Sa Central Luzon, naitala ang pinakamaraming namatay dahil sa rabies sa bilang na 25, 21 naman sa CALABARZON, 17 sa Region 6 at 16 sa Region XI.
Ayon sa DOH, ang rabies ay may 100-percent fatality rate, bagamat sinabi ng World Health Organization (WHO) na 100 porsyentong preventable ito sa pamamagitan ng bakuna at immunization kapag nakagat ng hayop na may rabies.
“In more recent years, there have been a number of rabies cases who remained alive but these are quite rare,” ayon pa sa kagawaran.
