Mayor Africa at pitong iba, sinampahan ng kasong plunder sa Ombudsman
Sinampahan ng kasong plunder at graft si Lipa City Mayor Eric Africa at pitong iba pa sa Office of the Ombudsman.
Ito ay may kaugnayan sa P107.2 milyong cash advances na umano’y na-withdraw bago ang eleksyon noong Mayo 9.
Bukod sa kasong graft at plunder, sinampahan din ng kasong administratibo si Africa at City Accountant Ma. Belen Villanueva, Chief of Staff Wilfredo Rivera, Rochelle Catindig at Melany Aguila ng City Community Affairs Office, at Executive Assistants Dexter M. Recio, Philip Maurice Ulep at Mary Ann Gutierrez.
Nabatid na ang mga residente at taxpayer na si Levi Lopez ang naghain ng reklamo sa Ombudsman noong June 29 at natoryohan ni Joseph Marion Navarete na graft investigator ng Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for Luzon.
Kinasuhan si Africa at pitong iba pa dahil sa paglabag sa Article 217 ng Revised Penal Code (malversation), Section 89 in relation to Section 128 of Presidential Decree No. 1445 (Government Auditing Code), Section 3 (e) ng Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, at 2017 Revised Rules on Administrative Cases in the Civil Service.
Pasok si Africa sa kasong plunder sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 7080 o “Act Defining and Penalizing the Crime of Plunder.”
Ayon sa reklamo ni Lopez, nakuha ni Africa ang P107.2 milyon noong Marso 3 hanggang 14 para sa educational financial assistance fund, pension para sa senior citizens, extended beneficial assistance para sa transport sector, at allowance ng barangay functionaries.
Wala pa namang tugon ang kampo ni Africa sa reklamo ni Lopez sa Ombudsman.
