MMDA, minamadali na ang pagsasaayos ng navigational gate

Minamadali na ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang pagsasaayos ng nasirang Navigational Gate, na nagiging sanhi ng pagbaha sa mabababang lugar sa Navotas at Malabon tuwing high tides.

Ayon kay Engr. Baltazar Melgar, pinuno ng MMDA Flood Control and Sewerage Management Office, pansamantalang inihinto ang operasyon ng Navigational Gate sa Tangos River sa Navotas City upang bigyang-daan ang aktibidad.

Kailangan aniyang dumaan nito sa emergency repair matapos maranasan ang problema noong buwan ng Marso.

“The structure is already more than a decade old since its completion in 2008 and some of its mechanical and electrical components have deteriorated and would continue to deteriorate if not repaired,” pahayag ni Melgar.

Kabilang din sa pagsasaayos ang realignment ng link arm at pagpapalit ng mga nasirang parte nito.

Inamin naman ni Melgar na nahihirapan ang mga private contractor sa underwater repair.

Maliban dito, matindi ang tinamong pinsala sa gate kung kaya’t nagsasagawa ng mud blasting at desilting activities para mabawasan ang bigat ng gate leaf at maiwasang magkaroon ng misalignment ang trunnion nito.

Ayon naman kay MMDA Chairman Romando Artes, “Private contractors have been conducting the repairs of the Navigational Gate for four weeks now.”

Dagdag nito, “We are giving them 10 days to complete the repairs so that the flooding in the communities would subside.”

Simula nang magkaaberya noong Marso, karamihan ng mga barangay na nasa mabababang lugar ng Navotas at Malabon ay malubhang naapektuhan ng matinding pagbabaha tuwing high tide.
