Naging matagumpay ang isinagawang Regional Marine Pollution Exercise (MARPOLEX) 2022 ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Japan Coast Guard (JCG), at Directorate General for Sea Transportation (DGST) ng Indonesia sa Makassar.
Sa closing ceremony sa araw ng Biyernes, Mayo 27, pinasalamatan ni Makassar Mayor Petahana Danny Pomanto ang PCG at JCG sa pakikiisa sa DGST upang maitaguyod ang marine environmental protection.
Malaking tulong aniya ang nasabing joint maritime exercise para matiyak na maiiwasan ang insidente ng oil spill at maibibigay ng DGST ang serbisyong kinakailangan ng Makassar, na malapit sa Sulawesi Archipelagic Sea Lane, isang major sea lane para sa national at international shipping operations.
Naging sentro sa seremonya ang pagbababa ng mga watawat ng Pilipinas, Indonesia, at Japan.
Matapos ito, pumirma sa “joint declaration for the temination of the exercise” ang Exercise Co-Directors na sina CG Rear Admiral Robert Patrimonio (PCG), Captain Weku Frederik Karuntu (DGST Indonesia), at Rear Admiral Hashimoto Masanori (JCG).
Samantala, binati naman ni CG Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan ang mga crew ng Coast Guard vessels na nakibahagi sa naturang misyon.
