‘Queen of Philippine Movies’ Susan Roces, kinilala sa Senado
Mablis na naaprubahan ang Senate Resolution No. 1002, na nagpapahayag ng pakikidalamhati at pakikiramay ng Senado sa pagpanaw ni veteran actress Susan Roces.
Si Roces, na Jesusa Purificacion Levy Sonora – Poe sa tunay na buhay, ay in ani Sen. Grace Poe at maybahay ng yumaong ‘Da King’ Fernando Poe Jr.
Binawian ng buhay ang tinaguriang ‘Queen of Philippine Movies’ noong nakaraang Biyernes ng gabi sa edad na 80.
Sa resolusyon isinalarawan si Roces bilang ‘national treasure’ at kinilala din bilang unang natatanging ‘leading lady’ sa mga pelikulang Filipino.
“Today, we honor the life of a movie icon, a true Filipina, and a national treasure. However, it has been said that the best speech delivered in occasions like this do not emanate from the speakers, but from the deed or the legacy of the person being honored,” sabi ni Senate President Vicentev Sotto III sap ag-sponsor niya ng resolusyon.
Sabi naman ni Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto; “For 80 years her star shone bright, her performances illuminating the traits which make us great, as well as the foibles that prevent us from being so.’
Binigyan pagkilala din ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel si Roces, na aniya ay isa sa mga haligi ng pelikulang Filipino, gayundin sina Sens. Joel Villanueva at Bong Revilla Jr.
Samantala, nag-alay naman ng panalangin si Sen. Sonny Angara kay Roces.
Agad din pinasalamatan ni Poe ang mga kapwa senador sa pagkilala sa kanyang ina.
