Gender inequality sa ilang ahensya ng gobyerno, dapat nang alisin

Iginiit ng abogadong si Atty. Jonie Caroche-Vestido, miyembro ng Philippine National Police – Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) Advisory Group, na kumakatawan sa sektor ng kababaihan, na dapat nang alisin ang diskriminasyon sa liderato sa kapulisan, maging sa ilan pang law enforcement agency kung saan puro kalalakihan ang namumuno.

“I hope this could be heard by the entire PNP or the leaders of this organization because the celebration of National Women’s Month is meaningless unless we understand, internalize, observe, and accept the crux of the glaring issues of inequality in this notoriously male-dominated government sector,” pahayag ng abogado kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng National Women’s Month.

Ayon sa abogado, talamak pa rin ang gender gap sa ilang ahensya ng dahil sa hindi pantay na oportunidad sa mga kababaihan.

Wala pa aniyang nakikitang kababaihan na namuno sa pambansang pulisya, o kaya’y babaeng COP, Deputy Chief, o Regional Director.

Ipinunto rin nito na dapat taasan ang 20 porsyentong hiring quota sa pag-recruit ng mga babaeng pulis para malinis ang imahe ng kapulisan at bigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga babaeng pulis na pamunuan ang ahensya.

Kinuwestiyon din ng abogado kung sino ang mas magaling kung pisikal, emosyonal, psychological at mental ang pagbabatayan sa pagpili ng lider ng mga ahensya.

“These reflects discrimination, implicit biases, and social norms. The society and the PNP culture believe that policewomen can only do administrative works and desk jobs, can only handle women and children cases, and cannot lead the IMEG, the SAF, CIDG, IG, and other difficult units. And that is my big question. WHYYY? Is it because of the physical factors, emotional factors, psychological or mentals factors?,” pahayag ng abogado.

Mas magiging epektibo aniya ang mga ahensya kung mayroong gender neutral dahil hindi nanganguluhan na ang mga lalake lamang ang magagaling magpatupad ng batas, at gumawa ng mga istratehiya at polisya para magampanan ang tungkulin.

“It is timely that we address this gender gap in this male-dominated organization. The theme ‘We make Change work for women’, and “Juana ng IMEG para sa Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Kaunlaran’ should translate into action, or else nothing is gonna change,” saad nito.

Dagdag nito, “It’s about time for our policewomen to dream, to make a difference, and to really ‘make change work for women’.”
