CBCP hindi neutral, mga magnanakaw at sinungaling kinondena

Nanindigan ang Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines na hindi neutral ang kanilang hanay sa usapin sa pulitika. Ayon kay Father Jerome Secillano, executive secretary ng CBCP public affairs committee, kinokondena ng Simbahang Katolika ang mga magnanakaw at sinungaling. “In the battle against evil, injustice, lies, etc., the Church has always been brave in expressing her stand — she is against evil, she is not neutral,” pahayag ni Secillano. Paglilinaw ni Secillano, hindi magkapreho ang non-partisan at pagiging  neutral. “Being non-partisan” means her loyalty is neither with the candidate nor with any political party,” pahayag ni Secillano. “It is with the people. She should always be for the people,” dagdag ng pari. Pumalag si Secillano sa pahayag ng kampo ni presidential candidate at dating Senador Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ginamit ang mga pari para sa mapanira at negatibo ng uri ng pangangampanya. “Ironically, when [the Marcos] camp received the seeming endorsement of a lay religious leader, they did not complain,” pahayag ni Secillano. Una nang binatikos ng mga kritiko si  Vice President Leni Robredo on dahil sa umanoy paggamit sa Simabahab para sa kanyang political campaign. “Masyado naman ’yung insulto sa Simbahan. Tingin ko, ang Simbahan, hindi naman magpapagamit,” pahayag ni Robredo sa media interview. Ayon kay Secillano, ngayong mainit ang usapin sa pulitika, hindi maiwasan na magamit ang pangalan ng Simbahan Katolika. “It is hypocritical to say that their candidate is the only best hope for the people,” pahayag ni Secillano. Una nang sinabi ni Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas na kapag neutral ang Simbahan Katolika, pumapanig ito sa kasamaaan. “When there’s a murder … when you’re neutral you are for the murderer, because neutrality in the face of murder, favors the murderer,” pahayag ni Villegas.
