Sen. Angara: PH banking system, pinagtibay pa ng pag-amyenda sa PDIC charter

Pinagtibay at pinatatag pa ng mga ginawang pag-amyenda sa Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) charter ang banking system sa bansa.

Ito ang sinabi ni Sen. Sonny Angara, ang namumuno sa Senate Committee on Finance.

Aniya, nasa hurisdiksyon na ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) ang PDIC, na dating nasa ilalim ng Department of Finance (DOF).

Sinabi ni Angara na ang ginawa ang pag-amyenda matapos ang malawakang pagkonsulta sa mga nasa sektor ng pananalapi, katuwang ang BSP.

“This move is logical considering that the PDIC deals with deposit insurance for banks and the BSP, as the country’s Central Bank, sets the monetary policy and has financial supervision over the banks. This will result in better coordination between the two bodies,” sabi nito.

Maituturing na makasaysayan ang pagkakapasa sa panukala dahil ang naging huling pag-amyenda sa PDIC charter noong 2009 ay inisponsoran naman ng yumaong Senate President Edgardo Angara.

Ang pinakabagong pag-amyenda ay naisakatuparan dahil na rin sa mag-amang Angara.

“Our hope is that with these amendments to the PDIC charter, we help strengthen and make more resilient our banking sector, which will most definitely play a critical role in the coming years as we try to recover in the wake of the pandemic,” sabi pa ng nakakabatang Angara.
