Pilipinas, umakyat ng 113 spots sa speedtest global index

Halos limang buwan bago matapos ang anim na taong termino ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, umakyat ang Pilipinas ika-63 mula sa 178 na bansa at ika-65 mula sa 138 na bansa, ayon sa fixed broadband at mobile global performance figures ng Ookla.

Bumilis ang average fixed broadband download speeds sa 82.61 Mbps mula sa 7.91 Mbps o 944% growth, dahilan para umangat ng 113 spots ang Pilipinas sa pinakahuling Speedtest Global ranking, o mula sa pang-176 bago magsimula ang Duterte administration, ay pang-63 na ngayon.

Impresibo rin ang 467-percent growth ng average mobile internet speed sa bansa na mula sa 7.44 Mpbs nang magsimula ang Duterte administration ay 42.22 Mbps na ngayon.

Sa statement, sinabi ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) na, “the increase in internet speed in the country was the result of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s directive last year for telcos to improve their services amid the pandemic, and of the strengthened roll-out of DICT’s digital connectivity initiatives, especially the Common Tower Policy.”

Iniuugnay din ng National Telecommunications Commission ang record-breaking improvement sa internet speeds mula 2020 hanggang 2021, lalo na ang pagkakaiba sa mga nakalipas na taong performances, sa direktiba ni Pangulong Duterte na pabilisin ang pag-iisyu ng permits ng mga local government unit (LGU).

Ang mabilis na paglalabas ng LGU permits ang naging daan upang maapura rin ng telecommunication companies ang pagtatayo nila ng cellular towers at fiber optic networks na mahalaga para sa mapalakas ang internet connectivity at iba pang telco services.

Noong 2017, inilunsad ng Ookla ang Speedtest Global Index kapalit ng Ookla Speedtest survey bilang bagong designation para sa kanilang comparative report ng internet speed data sa buong mundo.
