Christmas departures, umabot sa 145,000 – BI

Humigit-kumulang 145,000 biyahero ang umalis ng Pilipinas sa gitna ng holiday season.

Ayon kay Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente, nasa kabuuang 145,900 pasahero ang umalis sa bansa sa buwan ng Disyembre.

Nananatili aniyang mababa ang bilang ng international travelers.

“By the end of the year, we’re expecting the numbers to rise a little, perhaps around 20 to 50 thousand more passengers, but we’re still not seeing pre-pandemic figures,” pahayag nito.

Nanguna ang mga Filipino sa listahan ng departures na may 117,795 exits, sumunod ang mga Amerikano na may 7,776, Indians na may 2,908, Chinese na may 2,509 at Japanese na may 2,190 exits.

Ani Morente, ang mababang bilang ng biyahero ay epekto ng worldwide travel restrictions at quarantine requirements, kung saan karamihan ay bunsod ng Omicron variant.

Sa kasagsagan ng Christmas eve at Christmas day, nakapagproseso ng BI ng 7,000 departing travelers.

“The usual busy Christmas eve and Christmas day still had a low number of travelers,” ani Morente at dagdag nito, “But we’re happy to be seeing better figures than last year.”
