Karapatan sa sapat na pagkain ng mamamayan ipinaglalaban ni Sen. Leila de Lima
Naghain ng panukala si Senator Leila de Lima para magkaroon ng sistematikong paraan para sa masolusyonan ang isyu ng kagutuman.
Layon din ng inihain niyang Senate Bill No. 2458 na maprotektahan ang karapatan ng lahat para sa pagkakaroon ng sapat na pagkain.
Nais ni de Lima na sa susunod na isang dekada ay wala ng Filipino ang nakakaranas ng gutom.
“This bill seeks to address the grave incidences of hunger and food insecurity in the country, consistent with the principles of the 1987 Constitution, specifically the right to life and human dignity, and the enshrined policy of an integrated and comprehensive approach to health development,” aniya.
Nabanggit ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Social Justice na noong 2019, 750 milyon o isa sa bawat 10 indibiduwal sa buong mundo ay nakaranas ng gutom.
Sa National Assessment Survey ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST), anim sa bawat pamilya sa bansa ang nahirapan sa paghahanap ng kanilang makakain.
Nakasaad din sa naturang panukala ni de Lima ang pagbuo ng Commission on the Right to Adequate Food na nasa ilalim ng pangangasiwa ng Office of the President.
