Paalala ng DILG, bawal pa ang political rallies

Sa gitna ng banta ng Omicron variant, nagpaalala ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) sa political parties, organizations, at kanilang tagasuporta na ipagbabawal pa ang pagsasagawa ng political rallies.

Ayon kay DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, iwasan muna ang political rallies kung saan nagtitipon-tipon ang maraming bilang ng tao na maaring maging super-spreader event.

“Bawal pa po ang mga political rally. Hindi pa po campaign period. We have been seeing candidates, both national and local, staging political rallies here and there which gather hundreds if not thousands of people. Hindi pa po tapos ang pandemya,” pahayag ng kalihim.

Dagdag nito, “We cannot put our guard down. The Omicron variant has already reached many countries and it’s only a matter of time before it reaches us.”

Samantala, papayagan naman aniya ang mga espesyal na pagtitipon kung pahihintulutan ng local government unit (LGU) at nasusunod ang minimum public health standards.

Tanging mga caravan at motorcades lamang aniya ang binigyan ng ‘go signal’ dahil masusunod pa rin ang physical distancing at ginagawa sa open areas.

“Nakamonitor ang mga kapulisan sa mga caravan or motorcade at sinisiguro nila na may physical distancing, hindi katulad sa mga political rally na mahirap ikontrol ang mga tao,” ayon sa DILG Chief.

Aniya pa, “There is a time for everything and now is not the time to gather a huge number of people. Let’s wait for the campaign period.”

Mapalad aniya na bumababa ang kaso ng COVID-19 sa bansa ngunit hindi ito rason para magpakampante.

Ayon sa Commission on Elections (Comelec), magsisimula ang opisyal na campaign period sa February 8, 2022 para sa national posts habang March 25, 2022 naman sa local elective positions.
