DOTr, humiling sa Google na isama ang bike lanes sa Google Maps

Humiling ang Department of Transportation (DOTr) sa Google na isama ang bike lane routes sa Pilipinas sa kilalang real-time navigation app na Google Maps.

Ayon sa kalihim, layon nitong makatulong sa mga siklista para sa kanilang araw-araw na biyahe.

Nakikipag-ugnayan na aniya ang kagawaran sa Google ukol sa naturang proyekto.

“This will be a very good innovation for Google Maps considering that many Filipinos now are riding bikes as their main mode of transportation which brings significant health and environmental benefits especially amid the pandemic,” pahayag ni Tugade.

Hinihintay na lamang aniya ng DOTr ang pag-apruba ng Google.

Saad nito, kampante siyang aaprubahan ng Google ang naturang kahilingan bilang tagasuporta ng aktibong transportasyon.

“We have asked Google to consider this suggestion top priority considering the increasing number of Filipino cyclists. We are confident that we can win their support on this,” dagdag ni Tugade.

Nakumpleto na ng DOTr ang 500-kilometer bike lane network sa metropolitan cities sa bansa. Kabilang dito ang Metro Manila (313.12 kilometers), Metro Cebu (129.47 kilometers), at Metro Davao (54.74 kilometers).

Pinondohan ang bike lane network project sa ilalim ng Bayanihan to Recover as One Act.
