Airport, seaport projects sa General Santos City magagamit para sa economic and employment opportunities – Tugade

Inihayag ni Transportation Secretary Art Tugade na magbebenepisyo ang General Santos City at nalalabing parte ng Mindanao sa transportation initiatives sa aviation at maritime sectors para makapagbukas ng economic at employment sa mga Filipino.

Sa inspeksyon sa General Santos Airport at Port of General Santos, kasama si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, sinabi ng kalihim na makatutulong ang development projects upang makapaghatid ng komportableng biyahe sa mga pasahero.

“In the quiet of our endeavors, we worked on the projects as quietly as we can. But in the quiet of our endeavors, nakaka-produce ‘ho tayo ng mga proyektong ganito,” saad nito.

Kasama rin ng pangulo at ng kalihim sa inspeksyon sina Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco at Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Jay Santiago.

Oras na makumpleto ang development projects, ang General Santos Airport ang magiging kauna-unahang paliparan sa Mindanao na may contactless features katulad sa Clark International Airport sa Pampanga.

Inanunsiyo rin ni Tugade na pamamagitan ng Philippine Airlines (PAL), sisimulan ng naturang paliparan ang international operations patungo at mula sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia via GenSan-Kuala Lumpur-GenSan sa December 9, 2021.

“Matagal na panahon na ‘yung estado ng GenSan as an international airport ay nabinbin at nasuspinde. Ngayon, dahilan sa pagbabago na inintroduce natin sa termino ng ating mahal na Pangulo —announcement: December 9 of this year, the Philippine Airlines has formally signified to us that they will again start here their international operation, GenSan – Kuala Lumpur – Gensan,” ayon sa kalihim.

Dahil sa pinalawak na passenger terminal building (PTB) nito, kakayanin nang ma-accommodate ang dalawang milyong pasahero kada taon, mula sa dating annual capacity na 800,000 pasahero.

Samantala, kaya na ring ma-accommodate ng Port of General Santos o Makar Wharf ang 1,300 large ships para sa port calls kada taon.

Kabilang sa development projects sa nasabing pantalan ang bagong Port Operations Building.

Pinuri naman ng pangulo si Tugade at ang buong kagawaran para sa pagtatapos ng transport development projects sa naturang probinsya sa kabila ng COVID-19 pandemic.
