Ikalawang MRRV ng PCG, nailunsad na

Nailunsad na ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ang ikalawang 97-meter multi-role response vessel (MRRV) sa Shimonoseki Shipyard, Japan araw ng Huwebes, November 18.

Ang naturang MRRV ay bahagi ng Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project Phase II (MSCIP Phase 2) ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) para sa modernisasyon ng ahensya.

Oras na maipadala sa bansa ang dalawang barko, ito na ang magiging pinakamalalaking floating asset ng PCG.

Mas malaki pa ito sa 83-meter off-shore patrol vessel (OPV) na BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) na gawa naman sa France.

Ang MRRV na naka-modelo sa Japan Coast Guard (JCG) Kunigami-class vessel ay kayang magsagawa ng pang-matagalang pagpapatrolya sa malawak na maritime jurisdiction ng Pilipinas, kasama ang West Philippine Sea, Philippine Rise, at katimugang bahagi ng bansa.

Sinabi ni Undersecretary for Maritime, CG Admiral George Ursabia Jr. na mapapalakas nito ang maritime search and rescue (SAR), maritime law enforcement, humanitarian assistance, at disaster response operation ng ahensya.

Sa virtual launching ceremony, kinilala ni Ursabia ang kooperasyon ng Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan government, at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. sa modernisasyon ng PCG.

Siniguro naman ni PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Leopoldo Laroya na gagamitin ang mga bagong barko sa pagpapaigting ng seguridad at kaligtasan, gayundin sa pagpapatupad ng rule of law sa maritime jurisdiction ng Pilipinas.
